Welcome to Shane's Kitchen

74 High St, Rottingdean, Brighton and Hove, Brighton BN2 7HF, United Kingdom

General Info

Tucked away at 74 High St in Rottingdean, Brighton and Hove, Shane's Kitchen feels like the kind of café you stumble upon once and then keep coming back to. The location itself is charming, and once you step inside, the relaxed atmosphere makes it easy to settle in, whether you're starting your morning or taking a midday break.

What stands out right away is the menu. It’s simple but thoughtfully put together, with options that feel both comforting and fresh. If you’re visiting for breakfast, the Baby English Breakfast is a great place to start. It’s well-portioned, satisfying without being too heavy, and clearly made with care. Pair it with a pot from their great tea selection, and you’ve got a solid beginning to your day.

As the day moves into brunch or lunch, the variety continues to impress. The Jacket Potato is a highlight-warm, filling, and ideal if you’re after something classic. It’s the kind of dish that doesn’t try too hard but still delivers on flavor and comfort. The café manages to balance traditional offerings with lighter, more modern options, which makes it appealing to a wide range of visitors.

Desserts here deserve their own moment. The Orange Chocolate Cake has a rich, slightly zesty flavor that feels indulgent without being overwhelming. On the other hand, the Chocolate Brownie is dense, fudgy, and exactly what you’d hope for if you’re in the mood for something sweet. For those looking for plant-based options, the Vegan Lemon Cake is surprisingly light and refreshing, proving that the café pays attention to different dietary preferences without compromising on taste.

Service is straightforward and welcoming, adding to the overall easygoing vibe. While there’s a paid parking lot nearby, the convenience of the location makes it accessible whether you’re local or just passing through Brighton. Reviews often mention how consistent the experience is, and after spending time here, it’s easy to see why.

Shane's Kitchen doesn’t try to be flashy. Instead, it focuses on doing the basics well-good food, a comfortable setting, and a menu that keeps people coming back.

What customers say?

“ Great customer service. Incredible options for vegan and/or gluten free peeps. Quirky decor and 60s music. I'm in love! Will come back! ”

“ An absolute gem! You’ll know it by the gorgeous cakes in the window! Come inside and you’ll be welcomed by the friendly owner Barry. At first we just came for the Bounty Coconut Brownie Cake, which was decadent! We were having such a great time chatting to Barry, that we had some sandwiches to stay longer Such a lovely experience and we hope to visit again next time we’re in Brighton! ”

“ A little gem. The owners were lovely, the cafe was lovely and the food was great. This little place really surprised us, as just popped in hoping for something breakfasty. We ordered 1 Full English, and 1 Baby Breakfast. Both were very generously portioned with very good quality food for a very decent price, and the tea for 2 was also very generously sized. I wish I lived closer, as I would be in here all the time. Thank you for a great experience ”

“ Lured in by the fantastic cakes in the window! Had a sandwich which came on thick bloomer bread with plenty of filling, a salad and crisps. Great value for money. Quirky decor, nice atmosphere and a friendly welcome. It’s a great place to eat in Rottingdean and exceptional value. Will be back. ”

“ I stumbled across this lovely café on Sunday after my friend and I walked the Undercliff path. What a gorgeous place. We loved all the decor and it was so Christmassy inside. The food was delicious and such good value. The staff were also really friendly. Looking forward to our next visit ”

“ I can't fault this lovely cafe... What an amazing selection of homemade cakes... Absolutely stunning. I, however, had a big breakfast, one of the best, if not the best breakfast I've had, beautiful bacon, lovely sausages... Well cooked, well presented. Just to add to the experience, the guy who was cooking (a Scottish guy) was genuinely funny. I left with a full stomach and a smile on my face. I honestly hope I can get back here. Well done and thank you. ”

“ When we googled somewhere to eat “Shane’s Kitchen” did not really provide inspiration. This was mainly because the only Shane I ever knew was a short, rotund, smelly, greasy man with bad teeth so I just had visions of him cooking. How wrong I was, this place was lovely, colourful and really funky! My friend and I were on a girlie weekend so after passing it on previous days and realising the “Shane” I knew didn’t actually work there, we headed there for our hangover cure on Sunday morning. As well as a whopper breakfasts they did an amazing selection of cakes and home made sausage rolls that were epic - wish I took more photos! Really lovely place and I am confident it will not disappoint. From memory I think they did vegetarian options too and gluten free. ”
